Can you do a video on the 'bring back the Crusades' style videos on UA-cam? How have Lutherans historically understood the crusades? I think of the crusades against Bohemia. I know Andrew Willet, a English Reformed theologian, wrote against the crusades and for just war. 2) I also hope you would do a video on the issue of whether it is antisemitic to affirm particular passages of Acts and John (I don't think so, whether these texts can be publicly read )while pushing back against the nonsense being promoted by actual anti semites about 'judeo-communism' conspiracy theory (that use fake quotes, fake stats, cherry picking, strawmanning, ignoring of anti communist Jews, ignoring of pogroms by the Red Army, ignoring the times that Roosevelt or Churchill declined requests by Jewish leaders, etc).
Thanks i understand now we don't want a new french revolution.
Awesome summary of baptism! I believe we generally have the same view in the Reformed tradition. Did you have the opportunity to be baptized and you weren’t? You probably aren’t saved. Did you surrender to Christ but didn’t get a chance to get baptized (ex. Thief on the cross)? You are probably saved. Point is, if you call yourself a true Christian, go get baptized! If you genuinely don’t get the chance for reasons you can’t control (which is a very small minority of people), you do not need to live in anxiety :)
Can you do a video on whether the American government, either the original intent, or what it’s turned into, is biblical?
Lol, when I saw this I was like "Wait... Is this because of my comment?" Great video!
It is! I thought it was worth clarifying.
Thank you for answering my question!
Didn't go to Eastern Nazarene nor Gordon, but I did apply to and got accepted by both of them before I got my B.S. at Messiah University.
You've really helped me with my Philosophy class!
I am most certainly guilty of behaviors condemmed here and will have to better my self in this regard as in many others. Thank you Dr. Cooper for making this video. It is one I fear that I will have to return to every now and then. Greetings from Germany. May God bless you, your work and your family.
I personally just get upset because everyone hates each other. I see God lead me to orthodoxy, but I hear the same thing for Lutheranism, Anglicanism to many other forms of Christianity which I think adds creadence to the Protestent understanding of what the church is but others are gonna say its demonic and vice versa. But I do get upset in a sinful way like how an aithiest reacts to Christianity in general. Then youll get lots of well you do not have God whstever expeiernce you have is a lie so repent but those same people act the exact same way when told the same thing in the same way.
Dr, what is that huge collection of books on yours bookcase ? looks like an encyclopedia
What's interesting is the total disingenuous misrepresentation of Flowers. He even admits that he hasn't listened to Flowers that much, but he still feels like he can shoot from the hip and make false claims that he explains in other videos. One of those being that Flowers and other provisionists do not deny original sin and they are not synergistic BY DEFINITION. He states multiple times in many different videos that Salvation is 100% God's choice and God's decision and nothing we can do will change that. When we accept God's grace, that is not a work, but a response. We are offered something (grace) and we can either accept or reject. That does not affect our salvation through faith in Christ by the grace of God. Once we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, we are then saved, not because of anything we did, but because God has chosen in His grace and faithfulness to adopt us into the family and He gives us the right to be called children of God. Again, this is not synergistic and the two decisions cannot be conflated. One is a response to God. The other is God's decision to save. God is the only one who chooses who to save and who to condemn. We are the ones who choose to either accept or reject Jesus. God is still sovereign even though He gives His creation the ability to make choices for themselves.
Thank you for this analysis, Dr. Cooper. These sorts of questions have been bothering me for a while now. As a young Lutheran man (and soon to be father) who wants to be an informed and active citizen, it feels like it's more difficult than ever to know the best way to be politically involved without inevitably seeing idolatry and failure on the conservative side. Do you think the laity of the Lutheran church would be able to make more of a positive impact in American politics if we consolidated? Most churches seem to be "commuter" churches that people go to once a week at most. Even churches that run a school don't tend to be the kinds of organic communities that could concentrate political power locally and protect themselves. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I do wonder how much of this hinges on whether you're in an urban (/suburban) or rural area. As life-long Lutheran who has only ever lived in an urban/suburban context, relation to the centers of power will take different shape.
How could the lutheran church have strong leadership If they have strong communities?
The relationship between church and community is very unhealthy in a commuter environment, but I don't know that there is a great way to change that on a large scale. I would like to see Lutheran families intentionally choose to move closer to their churches, and to commit to working together to educate their children (whether through a church affiliated school or a homeschooling co-op).
What is legitimate resistance? Concentration camps? The Native Americans in their wars? Black chattel slavery? Forced transitioning of your children? The social credit system?
Judging from your comments, the American Revolution was illegitimate. The lesser magistrates of the colonies openly rebelled against the crown mostly over taxation issues and representation.
You’ve explored this very well in the context of 17th century governments, but it seems you failed to consider unique situation in America. The second amendment doesn’t exist just to hunt deer.
Which Apostle wrote the Second Amendment? I can't remember. America is not as unique as many people think, and it doesn't matter. A Christian is to serve Christ and neighbor, not himself. It is a hard thing to be persecuted and to only resist with love of our enemy, but that is the example that Christ and the Apostles gave us. It is complicated because we are to love both the persecuted and the persecuters and be willing to endure and ready to forgive.
The second amendment is not apostolic lol
@@joabthejavelin5119 i’ll go with the most charitable interpretation of your comment and assume you didn’t actually watch Jordan‘s video in which he talks about civic calling. The civic calling in America, where fear of tyranny is so embedded as it is here that we have an entire amendment for the populous to protect against it-is going to be very different than 17 century Germany.
@@TheOtherCaleb Neither are most of the terms and ideas in this video
@@wabajack9929 By your argument, 21st century America is very different from 18th century America. So the constitution is irrelevant. After all 18 is closer to 17 than it is to 21. God's teachings are beyond time. It doesn't matter what century we're talking about. I believe in the Second Amendment, but I think we need to rethink how we talk about what are our "rights." We should think in terms of what authority do I have, instead of what rights do I have. Has God given me the authority to usurp or overthrow the government? No. This is what is ment by the lesser magestraight. The electors have the responsibility to keep the government accountable.
If you cannot say "the American revolution was objectively good" then your theology is bad and leads exactly to the reality of Lutherans letting Hitler do what he wanted.
Thank you for this video I learned something new today.
The idea that the feeding of the 5000 was only an inspiration for people to share their food was also preached by a pastor in my former church. He also was on his way to denying the resurrection. I no longer attend that church.
Pro-natalism and Homeschooling are the ultimate symbols of revolution.

Do you have these type of videos for other types of heresies? What about modern heresies?
I love the quotes around the word “scholars” when referring to the Jesus Seminar.😊 I was exposed to a lot of that when I was in grad school. It always struck me how many assumptions they had to make before getting to their conclusions. But the assumptions never seemed to be tested.
Once again, love that you are able to summarize the different millenial views without bashing others. I feel like this specific topic is almost as dividing as predestination at times! I'm personally a-mill, and honestly, I find a lot of dispensationalists (especially here in the South, for whatever reason) really take an overly firm stance on it and it comes across as them hoping for the condemnation of others in a bit of a self-righteous manner. They also tend to focus a bit too much on eschatology and trying to prophesy and correlate today's events with specific visions of Revelation. That said, there are also tons of dispensationalists, probably even the majority, who are ecumenical and don't think this way, and I'm grateful for them. Grace and peace my brother!
Wish I didn't have to work so I could read all this stuff (:
If God was willing to force us all to conform to his Will, then why isn't he able to force us to act in accordance with his Will? Christ wouldn't be necessary if God made us do what he wanted as we would've been able to act in accordance with the law. Moreover, did God make Eve and Adam eat from the tree?? If so, how can God's Will be considered sin? If our salvation is calvinist than no sin can exist as all people act in accordance with God's Will, the one who "sins" is simply doing what God willed for them to do. I ask again, can God's Will be sin? Also, if God could save all of mankind but chose not to then he doesn't love humanity and the bible would be wrong as it clearly states Christ died for all people. Calvinist prioritize God's authority at the expense of his Love (for the Calvanists god is in no way loving) whereas most other Theological families maintain God's Love and Authotiy in equal measures.
Was just confirmed into the LCMS! While I still think there’s a lot of truth behind the Reformed Tradition, I do believe the Lutheran tradition is the more Biblically accurate view of Christianity. Still love my Reformed brothers and sisters!
Is not the bondage of the will further pointing out and remembering us in the fact that no other man, save the only begotten son of God could have performed the entirety of the life that Jesus lived? I think Luther's bondage of the will obviously a show is a proof text and a call for humility toward a clearly Superior quality found in the person of Christ. Specifically how God's will is the proof of perfection and how impossible it is for man's will to be free of its relationship to the law and will of God and still be considered anything but detestable. The opposite of proper worship and do respect for life given by God alone as true source of the good and the beautiful.
Praying for you Dr. Cooper 🙏 I haven't been watching you for a while but from what I know, you have done great as a president of the seminary!
No, no, no. Buddhist and Hindu myths. The BUDDHA-fication of Jesus of Nazareth by the Essenes (Jerusalem) and the Therapeutae (Alexandria, Egypt). The Jewish cults were 1/2 Jewish and 1/2 KRSNA Hindu with a thin veneer of Buddhism (Emperor Ashoka invented the myth of the Buddha in 275 B.C.)

But salvation is not just given. The only way to get salvation is to give your life to christ christ confess of all your sins and ask him to forgive you and will but you must live the way he wants you to live
Thank you for this discussion. The introspection part of Calvinism is also present in Arminian circles. They just say "you've lost your salvation." "If you're not going upward, you're going downward." So there's always altar calls, "rededicating your life to Christ" "revival meetings" to the point that it just becomes a cycle...

Dr. Cooper, can you explain how Article II of the Formula of Concord conforms to what Paul preaches in Acts 17? Saint Paul says to the men of Athens, "And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him." As I listened to this, these verses came to my mind and I don't see how Paul's anthropology can be squared with that of the Confessions on this topic. Second, in Bondage of the Will Luther explains how the preached word of God relates to the hidden will of God and the question of Conversion. When addressing Ezekiel and how God desires not the death of the sinner, Luther says of the prophet: "He speaks of the published offer of God’s mercy, not of the dreadful hidden will of God, Who, according to His own counsel, ordains such persons as He wills to receive and partake of the mercy preached and offered." Luther seems to be teaching that, secretly, Scripture is not clear as it pertains to questions of salvation. He's bumped into a text that contradicts his position, so he gets around it by saying that secretly, Scripture is not clear or true. The secret truth is that in God's Hidden will He does desire the death of those He choses not to bring to faith, otherwise he would have. It's not clear to me how, with Luther's doctrine, you can really avoid concluding that God is the author of sin and evil in the monergistic scheme of Lutheranism, despite the denial of that conclusion by the confessions. I would love to read your thoughts on that, as I don't see a way around concluding that this is the meaning of Lutheran doctrine when you take Original Sin, Free Will, and Election together as a package deal in the confessions.
I have begun reading "A Martyr's Faith in a Faithless World" by Bryan Wolfmueller from Concordia Publishing House. It is helping me to reorient my thinking.
I'm a lifelong Lutheran. I just feel like there are women who are just as capable of leading a congregation. I think, in Luther's time, women were less educated. Now they are so that doesn't apply anymore. We have to look at that with the same energy as Luther's antisemitism and disavow it.
I love that he gives the obvious answer "Baptism Does Save You" because that is what the bible says. It is a fools errand to argue that Baptism does not save you, becuase the Bible says that it does, and God can not lie.
The universities have been Marxist since the 20s. How the fucn did our grandparents let the givernmetn sell them social security? Because they were selfish piggy communists. Claimin g to fight communism while implimenting it under the guise of security.
Man, the way that a lot of Catholics have been responding to you here kinda tells you all you need to know, doesn't it? Kinda reminds me of another legalistic group from this book I read who wanted to keep their religion all to themselves and condemn everyone else...
And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. -Jeremiah 29:13 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. - John 3:16 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out. -Acts 3:19 If you are in North America, please go check out any of the churches available to you: OPC, PCA, Rpcna, Urcna, or a Canrc church (These are conservative and actual Presbyterian/Reformed churches) If you can’t find one of the conservative presby churches then, maybe an Lcms Lutheran church. If you’re Scottish, I recommend the Free Church of Scotland and the APC. (Different from the Church of Scotland) If you’re English I recommend the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in England & Wales and the Free Church of England (Different from the Church of England) Also online you can look up church finders for each of the groups, it will show you locations. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. - Hebrews 10:24-25
A false faith is still faith, an atheist has faith and it is a false faith.
It is absurd that if someone doesn't agree with one point such as praying with people who don't agree with 100% of a churches doctrine that they are out of fellowship. So technically, if a WELS member prays with say, a Baptist, she or he could lose their WELS membership?
Jews did not worship in the synagogue.
